SPART*A Issues Statement in Remembrance of 9/11 Washington, D.C., September 11, 2013 - Twelve years ago today, a way of life was disrupted by wanton terrorist attacks, and a nation became a target because of its ideologies. A malicious group of people, fundamentalist in their desire to destroy the hope and fortune of the United States, unleashed a coordinated attack unseen since Pearl Harbor. It claimed just as many lives while achieving a similar result – the beacon of strength, freedom, and prosperity lit the world ablaze in calculated vengeance to right the ultimate of acts. We remember the lives lost in the World Trade Towers, Pentagon, and United 93 which stand as a reminder to the rest of the world we are united as a global community, and the seeds of terror and evil will never grow to cast the shadow of doubt and despair where democracy lives. Lost too were our LGBT brothers and sisters who have fought valiantly across all wars and theaters, paying the ultimate sacrifice so Americans at home and abroad can enjoy the rights and freedoms granted under the stars and stripes so many have died to protect. It is this day we commemorate the sacrifice of those brave warriors and push forward to continue to be the dream so many risk life and limb to be a part of. It is this day burned in the American psyche forever; we know never to run away from tyranny, but instead stand tall, steadfast, and vigilant against its ever-growing shadow. Today we remember. Tomorrow we never forget. ### About SPART*A: SPART*A is a group of LGBT people who currently serve or have served in the military and our families as well as veteran and uniformed allies.
