SPEECH BY THE PRINCIPAL(FR THEOPHILUS ITAMAN) UPDATE FROM LUMEN CHRISTI INTERNATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL, UROMI From your experience as proud and worthy products of Lumen Christi International High school, Uromi, which today is your alma-mater, she is a value and spiritual development, driven post-primary institution. It has remained so ab initio till today, and by the grace God, it will continue to be so. She continues to draw inspiration and drive from this philosophy, a mandate which she has contrived into a launching pad for her exploits, a leverage that has catapulted her to heights of succession of successes and excellence in various spheres of education, both at the state and national levels. You are a group of people that transparently burns with consummate desire in contributing positively to the development and overall welfare of the school. Therefore as genuine stakeholders, it is fair and pertinent that you have a brief about how your alma mater has fared these past 28 years of its existence. It is an existence which is analogous to the biblical mustard seed metamorphosing into a big school, an institution attaining the best school status, number one school in Nigeria. Hence, it is proper to ask that you savour with us the delight and elation brought about by her brilliant performance with honours of awards and prizes. In these 28th years of existence, Lumen Christi has blazed and maintained a track record of hundred percent (100%) pass in WAEC results. Other areas where she has distinguished herself outstandingly in performance include:- a. This growth became very laudable and translucent in 2007 when the school won the first position in NNPC Science competition in the South- South Geo-political Zone. b. In 2007, she received the award for the Best overall WAEC result in Nigeria for producing the best aggregate result (The Guardian, 1st Jan., 2009; The Guardian, 4th Jan., 2009). c. This was further consolidated by winning the same award in 2009, as she produced the best WAEC result in the nation (The Guardian, Dec.31, 2010; Vanguard, Dec., 24th 2010; Daily Sunday, Jan., 4th 2011). This award was received on the 9th December, 2010 in Kaduna State. d. Also, on the 18th of December, 2010, she received the award for the Best secondary school in Nigeria during the 2010 Reward Nigeria Award held in Sheraton hotel in Lagos. e. For the 3rd time, Lumen Christi received the award for best WAEC result in Nigeria. This award ceremony took place March 2012 in Abuja as WAEC marked her 60th anniversary (The Nation, April, 18, 2012; Tribune, April, 19, 2012; The Guardian, April 26, 2012; Tell, April 30, 2012). f. Furthermore, in July, 2012 she won the National Secondary school Quiz Competition as she represented Edo State, beating all other States of the nation. g. On Oct 17th, 2012, she received another award for the best performing school in the nation during the Hallmarks of Labour Foundation Young Achievers Awards 2012. This took place at The Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Victoria Island, Lagos. h. Saturday, 13th July, Lumen Christi received the award for the best secondary school in the Nation during the 2013 Reward Nigeria Award held in Sheraton hotel in Lagos. i. On the 30th October, 2014, Lumen Christi International High school-Uromi emerged the National Champion by coming out first in an essay competition organized by Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN). We congratulate Enaholo Ofure, who represented the school and the Benin Province in the essay competition for his brilliant performance. These awards speak volume of Lumen Christi as Home of Excellence and the oasis of knowledge. On our part, we continue to live by our motto: the Best or Nothing. In fact, Lumen Christi is a vision achieved. In the past 28 years, Lumen Christi has raised many leaders and professionals in different fields-our enviable alumni are living testimonies to this fact. Lumen Christi is not only good in academics but also in sports, music and other extracurricular activities. In justification, she has released two albums and the third one is billed to be out in December this year during our Christmas carol celebration. Lumen Christi is indeed a world class and award winning school-The pride of Edo State and the joy of Esanland. In this citadel of learning, success is our food. DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS If the basic infrastructural outfit and conducive learning environment are not in place, the holistic development of a flower at best, becomes a mirage. Hence, the pursuit of academics and other necessary materials must go hand in hand. This informs the prosecution of diverse projects from time to time, depending on the exigency of need in time and place. These remain the propelling factors that make the prosecution of projects an on-going phenomenon in this school as exemplified during the previous school year till date. They range from building projects to others that have to do with social facilities and the environments, as exemplified as follows: 1. DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS: Two gigantic building projects were executed side by side with each other by the management. They were the new students’ hostel and a new ultramodern science block. Both buildings were executed with unparalleled speed and vigour. 2. CONSTRUCTION OF SCHOOL GATE: Among other projects that have been executed by the school management, is the construction of a new institutional gate at the entering point of the school major road to its compound. The design of the stage is artistic and magnificent with very solid and durable materials, and it has added beauty and dignified view to the entirety of the school compound. 3. WATER PROJECTS: The management has embarked on a water project. It is intended to facilitate and sustain the provision of running water for the school community. Work on this project has reached an advanced stage and to the glory of God, water table has been struck. With this, the school now has three boreholes for water. EXTOLLING THE EXCELLENCE OF THE ALUMNI Your impeccable conduct and excellent performance in your various fields of endeavour epitomize you as a prototype model any school that worth its sort can ever produce. You have amply demonstrated these sterling qualities either as individual alumnus or as under the canopy of the general body of alumni of this school. Your brilliant performances anywhere you find yourselves; within or outside, Nigeria continue to mark you out as the best. Cases in point are delight’s of NKELOKOYA GODWIN in Ukraine and numerous others elsewhere. I considered you all as pride to us here and a blessing to this generation. May God bless and continue to fructify you, Amen.
