SPLOST: Dont believe what you are being told regarding a stop in funding if the SPLOST fails. Having a blended source of revenue (property and sales tax) is a pretty good idea in a lot of economists minds, and that can be done with a LOST or a HOST. Recent changes in the SPLOST laws have made it legal for SPLOST funds to be used for maintenance as long as certain phrases are included in the ballot language. Going with a LOST or HOST drops the expensive carrot-encrusted facade that the project list has become: ...artificial turf ...30 sidewalks ...replacement of 20 year old concession stands made of cinder blocks ...streetscapes Id work hard to pass a LOST. With a LOST, every penny taken in by the sales tax gets refunded to property owners in the form of a millage rate decrease. Very cool stuff because it shares the burden more fairly and is thought to provide some haven from extreme economic events. Ones a leader, the others a trailer.
