#SPORTS BLANTRYE UNITED GOLIE ROUGHED OVER GAME FIXING Blantyre United goalkeeper Dave Pashani was on Sunday whisked away to safety by law enforcers after his fellow players roughed him up for conceding a silly goal that gifted Airborne Rangers three-points in the TNM Super League. Airborne Rangers won the match 2-1, but United player and their coach player Leo Mpulula failed to come to terms with the manner in which Pashani conceded the second. Rangers took the lead in early minutes of the game through forward Asedi Ayami, but the host levelled the scores in the 83th minute through Abraham Kamwendo. Kamwendo hit the back of the net from a indirect free-kick in the penalty box which was highly disputed by Rangers officials including coach/player Kondwani Gawani. Gawani was subsequently shown a red card to leave the bench, but he did not comply, and went on to snatch the red card from the referee. But the officiating team braved the tempers and anger from the visiting side to resume the match. As most people thought the match will end in one-all draw, Rangers scored the winning goal after United goalie dropped the ball in front of Rangers player who pounced it to score the questionable goal. Pashani appeared to have been injured, and instead of kicking or throwing the ball into touch to pave way for his treatment, he dropped the ball for his former club to score the winning goal. Inside sources claimed that he was given K5, 000 prior to the game and is on the verge of returning to the military side at the end season. “Throughout my involvement in serious football, both as a player and coach, I have never seen anything like that. That is why his teammates were angry because they suspected he must have fixed the match,” said Mpulula. Mpulula has since said Pashani will not be featured in any of the remaining games. Blantyre United, which was a force to reckon, is one of the candidates for relegation. They are third from the bottom with 14 points from 21 games. “At the rate we are going, I doubt if we will be able to stay put. We just do not have Super League material. We luck quality material. “What we have is just Matokoso,” said Mpulula, blaming the team’s management for not replacing a number of players that were sold to other clubs. Players that were sold to other clubs include Victor Limbani, Dalitso Sailesi, Bashir Maunde, Tizgowere Kumwenda, Patrick Thupi and Sparrow Msowoya.
