SPORTS UPDATE: Germany captain Philipp Lahm has retired from international football after leading his side to victory at the World Cup in Brazil. The 30-year-old Bayern Munich defender, who can also play in midfield, played 113 times for Germany. New Real Madrid signing Toni Kroos has voiced his admiration for Pep Guardiola and has stressed that the Bayern Munich coach has helped him become a better player. Kroos worked under Guardiola at Bayern during the 2013-14 campaign and was temporarily benched by the former Barcelona boss shortly after the winter break. Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere made an early start to his pre-season preparations after he returned to training three days before most of his team-mates. Wilsheres return comes days after photographs of him with a cigarette in his mouth while on holiday in Las Vegas were published by the Daily Mail - and were said to have earned him a reprimand from manager Arsene Wenger. Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy has emerged as a Liverpool transfer target as manager Brendan Rodgers plans to continue strengthening his squad before a Champions League push. 27 yr old Remy, scored 14 goals as he spent last season on loan at Newcastle United and Rodgers is weighing up an offer of around £8 million for the France international after backing away from a move for Swansea forward Wilfried Bony. Liverpools manager is continuing to chase several other transfer targets too, with Lilles Belgian striker Divock Origi, Southampton centre-half Dejan Lovren and Swansea left-back Ben Davies also on his wanted list. Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure, 31, has turned down a move to Manchester United. QPR have agreed a fee for Cardiff centre-back Steven Caulker, according to Rangers manager Harry Redknapp. Redknapp is hopeful of signing the 22-year-old to play alongside recent acquisition Rio Ferdinand. But he admits the England cap is still considering offers from other clubs. OTHER NEWS: The race to the Orange Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2015 continues this weekend as 14 nations’ face-off in the first of two legged matches which will deliver the final seven teams into the final group phase of qualification. The four CECAFA teams that will be in action this weekend are the Uganda Cranes, Harambee Stars of Kenya, Taifa Stars of Tanzania and Rwanda’s Amavubi . BOXING: Boxers under Kampala Boxing Club (KBC) and other sports personalities have vowed not to vacate their Nakivubo based gym. This follows the constant spread of information that part of Nakivubo Stadium where the gym is located is to be leased out to an investor to set up commercial premises.
