SPRING PAINTING TIP.. OK, spring is here and many people are starting to think about starting home improvement projects like freshening up that guest room with a fresh coat of paint. What type of paint you choose can actually impact your health. In the past, all paints emitted Volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are gases emitted by a variety of liquid and solid synthetic materials. According to the EPA, VOCs can cause, “Eye, nose, and throat irritation; headaches, loss of coordination, nausea; damage to liver, kidney, and central nervous system, and cancer in humans.” They also note that, “Key signs or symptoms associated with exposure to VOCs include conjunctival irritation, nose and throat discomfort, headache, allergic skin reaction, dyspnea, declines in serum cholinesterase levels, nausea, emesis, epistaxis, fatigue, dizziness.” YIKES! (There are also many other studies that associate these chemicals with more serious aliments and diseases). Fortunately, you no longer have to tolerate the effects of those chemicals in your house because there is a safer Healthier option , ZERO VOC paint. When I first started using this type of product it was very new on the market, hard to find and carried a premium price. But now most major brands have at least one of these product lines in stock, and the prices are usually the same as their chemical flinging relatives. I have had allot of experience with Pittsburgh Paints Pure Performance and Sherwin Williams Pure Performance products and I can attest that these paints apply and cover as you would expect of a premium paint. And you will be pleasantly surprised when you first open the can and there is NO smell at all, even when the paint is wet on the walls and ceilings, there is NO smell.. if you try it, I promise you will never consider using one of those old unhealthy products again!
