STARC would like to thank the following Amateur Radio Operators for checking into the STARC Sunday Ragchew/Buy/Sell/Swap Net this evening, July 27th, 2014: N1FBZ - Michael (South Burlington) KB1MC - Alan (North Hero) K2KI - Bob - Portable (Highgate Center) KB1JME - David (Richford) WA1UVM - Richard (St. Albans) W1LVT - Lenny (Richford) KC2AWR - Dan (Morrisonville, NY) KC1CHH - Robin (St. Albans) N1WDS - Doug (St. Albans) What did you do this past week in AR? N1FBZ put K1JAY VHF repeater back in service, took N1STA UHF out of service, helped N1WDS with 160m vertical antenna, SOTA chaser (twice), BARC Wednesday Nite Net, Pedestrian Mobile most morning on 146.610 while going on walks. KB1MDC talked on 2m simplex/repeaters and listened on HF. K2KI worked on putting his shack together, talked with KC1CHH and N1WDS on N1STA VHF, K1JAY VHF contact with Alan KB1MDC. KB1JME was really busy and played on HF at the shop where he works. WA1UVM got on the Green Mountain Net and put in a plug for the STARC hamfest on Aug. 9th. W1LVT fixed his 2m antenna (bad Tee connector) and downloaded Chirp software to program his radios. KC2AWR talked on his favorite simplex frequency and listened on HF some. KC1CHH practiced with N1WDS on using her radio gear and operating conventions, studying for the General license. N1WDS helped KC1CHH with learning how to use their radios, went on trip to Jay with N1FBZ and N1WXB to put K1JAY back into service, 160m helical vertical antenna install/test, trip to see KA5VVA and return his repaired HF linear amplifier and show him how to use it properly/safely, made 160m contact with a guy in W. NY, listened to broadcast band AM with his 160m vertical antenna. There was discussion about the STARC HAMFEST on 8/9/14. Vendors are needed for the hamfest so that attendees have something to buy and member help is needed also to help run the Hamfest. There was discussion about the next STARC meeting on July 31st. There will be a door prize, a book on ARRL Antenna wire classics. There was a discussion on lightning. We got great input from EVERYBODY in the group about their experiences with lightning and how they ground and protect their AR (Amateur Radio) gear and some of the lightning damage they had endured over the years.
