STATE FIRE UPDATE – 9.50PM, 17 JANUARY 2014 The CFS has 17 fires that are currently active across South Australia. The most serious is the Eden Valley fire in the South Mount Lofty Ranges which is burning out of control and has impacted the townships of (KEEN-ton) Keyneton, Sedan and Cambrai and is expected to hit Angaston in the early morning hours. This fire has been travelling in a south-easterly direction and will pose a risk to lives and property. Local residents and people in the area are advised to take shelter from the fire. People are also being relocated to the Angaston Oval for their safety. Bushfire Emergency Warnings have also been issued for the Riverland Complex fire where it has burnt more than 60,000 hectares near Cooltong and Renmark West and the Bangor fire in the Southern Flinders Ranges. This fire has been travelling in a southerly and easterly direction towards Wirrabara Forest, Beetaloo Reservoir, Laura township, Stone Hut, Murraytown, Wongara and Wirrabara townships where lives are at risk. A Bushfire Emergency Warning message has also been issued for One Tree Hill in the Adelaide Hills with local residents advised to activate their Bushfire Survival Plans and to take shelter from the fire. In the Upper South East, the Ngarkat Conservation Park fire is heading north towards Lameroo with mineral earth breaks currently being constructed to slow its rate of spread. Small fires have also been ignited by lightning strikes in this fire to the south of the South Boundary Track in the areas of Makin, McCallum and Shaugh (SHORE). The CFS is advising people to tune in to local radio or monitor bushfire incidents on the CFS website or to contact the Bushfire Information Hotline on 1300 362 361.
