STRATEGIC GOVERNANCE “Let`s VOTE for Patriotic Governance” If the politicians think Nigerians are gullible, it is because we fall MUGU, while they can afford to be corruptly enriching themselves, and run away with their children to better schools abroad, where there can never be strikes. If we fall MUGU, it is also because, the agency responsible for putting corrupt politicians in check, are only putting their foreign accounts in check and allowing them freedom, which they negotiate indefinitely, at the whims and caprices of the agency, even after leaving office. Looking around us, we notice inadequate justification for all the money spent in our economy, and we cannot comfortably, say there have been good governance, whether, at the Local Government, State or Federal levels. We cannot as well say, in affirmative, about the individual political appointees. What we see are people competing with their foreign currency and stolen wealth hidden away from us and chasing constituency allowances, hardship allowances, bumper salary and increased budget allocation etc. Every month, we are waiting on the mono-economy revenue sharing of oil revenue from Federal Account Allocation Committee, FAAC. Nobody is thinking of how to bake the cake before sharing. Roads, security, health, energy, education, etc are heavily budgeted to almost N5 trillions annually, with States collect monthly allocations in addition to foreign loans which they cannot pay-off till next 20 years. Universities are in shambles, roads are bad, and energy is said to be barely improving, though. With the Local Government completely in comatose, rural life has been grounded to a halt, and bringing the common man to his knees. It is really shocking that the resources amassed in this country by the politicians and government officials alike are least found circulating among the youths, community as well as in the infrastructural developments. They can be traceable to the developments in Abuja as well as buying up property in the cities like Port Harcourt, Lagos and Overseas. What transforms to the communities are less than 10% of the entire resources acquired on behalf the people. It is election time, and we have to be fed, as we are severely impoverished and marginalized to a point of begging. Any offer of cash at the sight of guns and thugs, ballot papers are thumb-printed in their homes, figures are falsified, agencies and their officers are bought with the same stolen money for them to lose their integrity, when appealed in courts or tribunals, the same money is used to subvert justice. We have a duty here, as we go into another election right now, to ensure that we vote for only patriotic individuals that have their children schooling in Nigeria and your children can identify and take photographs with them. They must show us their children standing in the podium and at the rally grounds. We must ensure that we vote for patriotic individuals living in our midst and not only visiting our communities at burial times or taking chieftaincy titles rather than ensuring consistency in ensuring good governance through the youths, community and rural developments. We must ensure that we vote for patriotic individuals who patronize our local products, including marrying Nigerian wives and not foreigners that will help them stack away stolen funds, until we are fully developed, before they can take Indian and Egyptian children as baby wives. We must as well vote for patriotic individuals identifiable on our death-trapped roads, sweating with us, and not use our money to buy private jets and fly away. We must vote for such individuals, whom we can identify the level of human resource development and empowerment in their environment and support the upliftment of the society tremendously, considering the massive wealth squandered. We all know the level of good governance denied our society and the impact on our youths, women, and aged parents, community and so on. Based on that, our vote must not be foolishly sold for a mere bag of rice, instead of teaching us how to catch fish. Now is the time for all kinds of promises, everything about good governance will be right on paper, bill boards, in the radio, colorful television programmes, sugar-coated speeches while helpless sycophants will be dying defending and campaign for them, in anticipation of a reward, which when it failed to come early in the day, a year down the line, tongues will begin to wag, the blame game will begin, impeachment and blackmail will gain attention more than the verifiable good governance. Appraising the last voting exercise in Nigeria, at every level, no Nigerian, in his right senses, can point at equal and appreciable democratic good governance that is equivalent to all the resources, allocated, generated, borrowed, and held in trust by these breed of politicians. As Patriotic Ambassadors, we must look well and vote well, so that if we are betrayed again, we then allow nemesis to take care of them, as we are coming home to roost gradually for the “dead to bury the dead,” and confront them face-to-face, that is when we can be said to have done the right thing collectively. Be Watchful!
