STUDENTS SET FOR SEPTEMBER SHOPPING SPREE IN SHEFFIELD Meadowhall expects thousands of students to take advantage of discounts and offers Students across South Yorkshire are facing their first big test this month, kitting themselves out with all the essentials they need to see them through the academic year and at a price they can afford... At what is the most expensive time of the year for a student - with the average academic spending almost £5,000 buying the student basics - Meadowhall is welcoming sixth form, college and university students through its doors for exclusive discounts at the Centre’s Ultimate Student Shopping Night. The event, in association with UNiDAYS, takes place between 6pm - 10pm on Thursday 25th September, and will give students a variety of offers from popular retailers including Pretty Green, Topshop and Urban Outfitters to food outlets including Boost, Yo! Sushi and wagamama. And if that’s not enough, Capital FM’s drive time presenter James Cusack will be rolling out entertainment for students, who will also have the opportunity to have a go on Doncaster Racecourse’s interactive racing game; challenge friends to a game of tennis; chances to win £150 worth of Primark vouchers every hour - and enjoy live music across the malls. Meadowhall Events Manager, Alex Caley said: “Meadowhall’s Ultimate Student Shopping Night is always a highlight in the centre’s events calendar and we’re looking forward to welcoming thousands of students through the doors at this month’s event, which is set to be bigger and better than ever! “We have hundreds of discounts and offers ready for the students to get their hands on – alongside a host of music, entertainment and prizes up for grabs. So if you are a student and haven’t already signed up – register through the Meadowhall website now.” The exclusive student event comes as recent research by insurers Endsleigh* has revealed that the average school leaver forks out over £4,588 preparing themselves for the start of university life with many of the items on their must-have list purchased after they have flown the nest and arrived for Freshers Week. The survey revealed that of the thousands spent on text books, tuition fees, the latest trends and household items, students were spending the most - more than £2,800 is spent just on technology. Laptops were revealed as the most common items on a student’s shopping list, followed by tablets, flat screen TVs and games consoles for that odd night in, and new to the list e-readers. The most popular item not falling into the high tech category was a bike, with almost a third of students opting to bring a bicycle to university. Alex Caley added: “The Meadowhall team have been keeping the finger on the pulse with the latest student trends, and with the cost of kitting out digs higher than it’s ever been we were determined to offer a very special evening to welcome the students to our region. “We have hundreds of discounts spanning all categories from high-end designers and high street clothing through to technology and homeware... and will be hosting a special pop-up store on the evening called Floots demonstrating the durability and convenience of cardboard furniture including study desks and wardrobes – the ideal furniture for a student pad!” Simply by registering for The Ultimate Student Shopping Night at Meadowhall, not only will you get to enjoy exclusive discounts and offers, but you could also be in with a chance of winning eight pairs of tickets to huge events at Sheffield’s Motorpoint Arena including; Lady Gaga, Kasabian, John Bishop and more.
