SUBANG JAYA, March 25 — Migrant rights activist Irene Fernandez is in critical condition after suffering from a heart complication today. The 67-year-old Tenaganita chairman was admitted to the Serdang Hospital where she underwent an emergency procedure and remains unconscious. According to sister and fellow activist, Josie Fernandez, Irene suffered shortness of breath as she was making her way from Seremban to the unveiling of the findings of the People’s Tribunal on Election 2013 here this morning. She then collapsed in her seat and was rushed to the hospital. “They — Irene, her daughter Katrina, and our sister Aegile — travel from Seremban daily for work... when Irene collapsed their driver Rajan rushed her to Serdang. “It was a close call. In Serdang Hospital they have a cardiac unit. The family decided to go with an angiogram. “The heart looks alright, the two stents she had planted are fine but the doctors are still trying to figure out the problem,” said Joise. Irene has since been transferred to the coronary care for further monitoring. “The doctors told us she is stable but still critical. Please pray for her, she wants a few more years, she has a lot more work to do,” said Josie.
