SUMMER 2015 PAID SUMMER RESEARCH INTERNSHIPS FOR UNDERREPRESENTED STUDENTS via CRA-W/CDC DREU (DREU was known as the DMP from 1994-2008) Application Deadline February 15, 2015 The CRA-W/CDC Distributed Research Experiences for Undergraduates (DREU) Program matches promising undergraduates with a faculty mentor for a summer research experience at the faculty members home institution. The objective of the DREU is to increase the number of women and students from underrepresented groups, including ethnic minorities and persons with disabilities, entering graduate studies in the fields of computer science and engineering. The DREU experience is invaluable for students who are considering graduate school, providing them with a close-up view of what graduate school is really like and also increasing their competitiveness as an applicant for graduate admissions and fellowships. Funding for the student consists of $7000 for the summer (10 weeks), plus relocation travel assistance when appropriate. Additional funds may be available to support student conference travel, either during the summer or afterward, and for outreach activities promoting the DREU. The number of students interested in the DREU program has increased substantially over the last several years. To enable more students to participate, faculty are now encouraged to provide funds to support (partially or fully) students; the DREU will provide travel support for all students. * All interested faculty are eligible to be DREU mentors. All interested faculty are encouraged to apply as mentors. Nonetheless, based on the documented benefits of role models with similar gender or from similar demographic groups, it is anticipated that DREU funds will mostly be used to support students matched with mentors from groups underrepresented in computing. Hence, other mentors applying should attempt to provide full funding for their students stipends (the program will provide travel support).
