February’s winning image, titled Net Worth, and taken by Fish Hoek local Brian Suter, is an evocative and beautifully composed picture that defines the human-shark conflict that has plagued that village. Suter’s picture depicts a City of Cape Town trial project that may provide a permanent solution during daylight hours — 300m x 5m shark-exclusion nets deployed by volunteers between 9am and 5pm each day. Suter’s shot wins him R5 000 from the Sunday Times. Olivia de Vos of Pretorias Binche Carnival nets her the runner-up spot, and Dylan Kotzes portrait of a Bo-Kaap scene earns him a highly commended nod from the judges. Congratulations!
