SUPER SINGER JUNIOR 4 –SPOORTHY-SSJ03(G/D M S R RAO, Ex.AGM/CB) singing NENJE THULLIPPO in the second version of the ROCK round .Original contributors – RAMESH VINAYAGAM(MUSIC),VAIRAMUTHU(LYRICS) KARTHIK(SINGER).It conclusively proves: that Vairamuthu is equally adept at ,as say in rural folk ,in pure rock lyrics; that there is a reservoir of talent waiting to explode in Ramesh Vinayagam;and Karthik is emerging as the new singing senasation. Let me confess. I am not a great fan of Rock. I have a typical classical rasika’s perception . I consider, at least used to, that it is a heterogeneous conflux of sheer decibel prowess of the singer ,orchestra and the drum, each trying to out compete the other having a very low musical quotient. Till I heard SPOORTHY practicing it with the original and the lyric book in hand. I slowly became conscious of: • ENERGY-you unbundle it almost instantly at the initiation , by almost all the players- vocalist, instrumentalists and the rhythmist.More importantly, maintain the tempo throughout without any time allowing it to sag. Akin to mandating a driver of limousine to straight way launch into the top gear and asked to navigate through a busy Indian City road without tapering the speed and remain scratch free. • LEVERAGING – The vocalist does not just remain on top of the orchestra but maintain lyrical clarity with diction perfect rendering, impart modulations where ever required within the confines of the SHRUTI. Like a trained ocean swimmer caught between two colliding tides in a storm struggling to retain head above water . SPOORTHY comes out with flying colours . Throughout her voice retains eminence and does not allow it to be engulfed by her illustrious accompaniments. Perhaps, her brother’s(SMARATH) dance with a childlike gay abandon alongside her served as the tonic. Just to underscore her effort, let me share something which I was privy to.In the entire week preceding the recording of the show, she was a victim of DENGU fever-down with an energy sapping high fever. She showed remarkable will/grit/determination to overcome it and to prepare for this round .Her efforts bore fruit. A standing ovation, a back to back shower and an admiring waive into the TOP 9 by the judges,acknowledging her transition into an all rounder is a fitting finale Just can not avoid recalling an incident from MS Ammas life. She lands in NEWYORK at the invitation of UN to perform at the GA. Was she the first to be given this honour? Probably. To her dismay she finds her throat is deeply affected.Not even capable of gentle talk, forget the meticulous sadhakam that precedes every concert of her.She knows only one recourse-PRAYER .She submits herself virtually before her guru, PARAMACHARYA OF KANCHI ,and the GOD, meditating and praying for their divine intervention. Goes to the concert stage with a trepidation that she is not used to.HEY PRESTO ,her throat gets miraculously cleared and her voice oozes out with her characterestic melody,She gives a performance even now ranked as a VINTAGE . Strange are the ways of god!While HE bestows unique talent on a select view, he withholds approbation and acclaim until he sees evidence of sincere endeavour commitment and devotion. Right?
