SUPPORT THE CAMPAIGN AGAINST MONEY LAUNDERING IN NIGERIA, BE PART OF THE CAMPAIGN TO MAKE A CHANGE IN NIGERIA NIGERIA NEEDS YOUR CONTRIBUTION NOW MORE THAN EVER LET THE NIGERIAN HISTORY FOR THE SECOND TIME BE WRITTEN WITH YOUR NAME WE REALLY NEED YOU, BECAUSE YOUR VOICE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE President Northern Youth Assembly, Ambr. Ibrahim Waiya NORTHERN YOUTH ASSEMBLY TO INVOLVE THE UNITED NATIONS SECURITY COUNCIL OVER THE £9.3 MILLION ARMS SCANDAL IF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FAILS TO SET UP A COMMISSION OF INQUIRY INTO THE MATTER WITHIN 3 WEEKS. The lingering and controversial matter involving £9.3 million money laundering scandal, smuggled into South Africa in a private jet, claimed to be meant for the purchase of arms by the federal Government of Nigeria , the jet which is believed to be owned by the President of CAN, an organization which is the Highest Christian body in Nigeria, Mr. Ayo Oritsejafor, is to be taken up to the United Nations Security Council by the Northern Youth Assembly and other concerned civil society organizations from and across the six geo political zones in the country. The National President, of the Assembly Ambassador Ibrahim Waiya, stated this while answering questions from the journalists in Kano, during his meeting with the civil society organizations to canvass for their support , who are also expected to be part of the campaign. President Waiya, while further fielding questions from the press, soon after a five hours closed door meeting with the groups said, the Assembly is preparing alongside with other concerned Nigerian Youth Groups from the South, to involve the UN security Council on this matter for proper investigations, especially as the issue has an international face, where three countries are involved, that is Nigeria, South Africa and Israeli, if President Goodluck Jonathan refuses to heed to the many calls of the Nigerian people to give a detailed account of the deal, by establishing an independent commission of inquiry. According to the President of the Assembly, the ultimatum given to the President Goodluck Jonathan will last on 18th of October, 2014. Our major concerns centre on the three shocking revelations by the South African Authorities, which included non - declaration of the money carried on the jet by the three persons on board, purported attempt by a whole country like Nigeria, to make transactions with an unlicensed company, (Tier One Services Group) which is not authorized by the South African Government, to sell or rent military hardwares, the involvement of an Israeli in the Nigerian team mandated to make a deal on arms purchase on behalf of the Nigerian Government, lastly the use of the private jet belonging to the President of CAN, Mr. Ayo Oritsejefor. The action of the Nigerian Government has not only contravened its long advocated money transactions campaign of the CBN cash policy, which discourages the movement of huge money in cash, but has also breached the South African Laws that deal with transfer of foreign exchange of such proportion, Waiya added. One of the most unfortunate development on this matter, was the deliberate action of the House of Representatives to bury the matter, at the time when some members intended to present a motion for discussion on the floor, at a session chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Emeka Ihedioha, who stalled and blocked the motion, on the pretext of national interest, and ironically a foreigner like Israeli was already involved in the arms deal on behalf of the Nigerian Government, this is not acceptable and we totally condemn the action of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, and also request the members to start proceedings for his impeachment, from his position as the Deputy Speaker, President Waiya further added. While responding to a question as to what their action is likely to be, if President Goodluck Jonathan fails to set up a commission of inquiry into the matter on the expiration of the ultimatum, waiya said plans are underway for the presentation of the matter to the United Nations Security Council, for investigation by a coalition of over 200 Groups from the six geo political zones in the country, also parts of our prayers will be for the adoption of a resolution to impose travel sanctions against President Goodluck Jonathan, top Nigerian Government officials and CAN President Mr. Ayo Oritsejefor. This decision is intended to support and consolidate the recently adopted resolution of the United Nations Security Council on discouraging the inflows of illegal money between countries to track down the sources of funding of the terrorists groups and procurement of arms by unauthorized individuals and groups. Also while commenting on the recent endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan as the PDP sole candidate for the forthcoming 2015 General elections in Nigeria , Ambassador Ibrahim Waiya said , the decision of the PDP Stakeholders was ill –timed, undemocratic, unpopular and very unfortunate especially as the democratic rights of the other presidential candidates, willing to contest have been shattered, and thereby disenfranchising them as the citizens. One of the very unfortunate political development in Nigeria, he added, is the untimely persistent and untiring commitments of some pro – Jonathan Groups, canvassing for another mandate for the President Jonathan’s return to power in 2015, despite the obvious weaknesses and lapses of the Jonathan led administration, ranging from insecurity, caused by the insurgency, where lives and properties are lost on daily basis, inability of the Government for getting to six months now, to bring back the kidnapped Chibok girls, increasing economic hardships to the Nigerians, continuous falling standard of education, increasing high rate of corruption, increasing high indices of youth unemployment, unaccountability for public funds and wastage of the Nation’s resources. President Waiya said, in this year alone about 921.21 billion was earmarked for the security and defence in the 2014 budget, and the security situation in the country has not in any way justified the money allocated for. Another unfortunate development, is the approval granted to the president recently, for a foreign loan to the tune of one Billion US Dollars in the name of fighting terrorism in the country, president Waiya, added. We want to condemn this in totality and also condemn the National Assembly members for their actions, which is capable of further rendering the Nigerian people into more difficulties, and we also hold the members responsible for some of our Nigerian problems, for their usual actions to be like a rubber stamp, doing the biddings of the Executive in most of the time, at the expense of the Nigerian masses, the President added. According to president Waiya, the only ray of hope for the Nigerian youths, which is expected to surface from our spiritual leaders, as men more closer to God, is about to be crushed as they have started choosing to behave politically motivated, by getting stained in a scandalous activity and making a religious platform to be an appendage of a political party. The president Waiya also advised the CAN President Mr. Ayo Oritsejefor to honourably resign his position, to allow for a more respectful man of God to take over, this we believe will safeguard the sanctity of the highly honoured religious body, Waiya suggested. The National President of the Northern Youth Assembly, has also lamented on yet another ugly development of the second scandal of the 5.7 million dollars in South Africa as well even though, the NSA has smartly claimed the legality of it. However, the involvement of people like Dakubo Asari, who were known for their involvement in militancy, but were found to be involved in the purchase of arms team, on behalf of a whole country like Nigeria. We want to categorically call on the authorities of the South Africa that, they should not in any way succumb to the cheap blackmail of the Nigerian Government over its business establishments in Nigeria. They should not allow the integrity of the South African People and Government to be compromised at all, waiya also called on the South African President, to allow for a thorough investigations into the matter and make known to the world, the outcome of the investigation. Signed: Comrade Adikwu Omale Joshua National Publicity Secretary, Northern Youth Assembly.
