SW contributor Sean McNeill caught Jim Clark’s new 100-foot super maxi Commanche (née NewCubed) arriving at its homeport in Newport, R.I., this morning under overcast skies and a light drizzle, and files the following: Boat captain Casey Smith and crew arrived under tow after a 27-hour journey from Hodgdon Yachts in Maine. With the arrival begins the assembly phase of the Guillaume Verdier/VPLP design. The keel and mast will be fitted and stepped in the coming days, and the plan calls for Commanche to begin sailing trials next week. “What could go wrong?” said Smith, with a big grin across his face.
