Saaz Ek Geet Anek – Percussion Finally, we come to my favorite part of music – the rhythm provided by Percussion. In life there is a beat to practically everything – starting with our heart beat, then pulse then breath – literally life itself. So it is not surprising to find that music also has rhythm. Indian Music is very rich in the variety of instruments which provide the rhythm – tabla, dholak, pakhawaj, mridangam, kanjeera, morsing, ghatam and even to something very simple in construction as two metallic lids hitting each other as in the Kar-taal. Hindi film music has always been rich in rhythm and so one episode of SEGA will be insufficient to do justice to the vast variety of music that can be included in this episode – so I request everyone to post songs which appeal to you and get you tapping your feet or even perhaps standing up and dancing to the song! Let me start with a Pancham number. For sheer variety of rhythm producing instruments this song along with the next song takes the cake. This song is from the movie – Baharon Ke Sapne – a black and white movie from the 1970s. Some friends who have known me since childhood will remember this as a very popular picnic song. And fortunately, the version that I found on Youtube has the song from the very beginning to the end. (For the harmonium piece in beginning, this song could have been included in the SEGA for Harmonium but luckily no one posted it so the enjoyment listening to it is, I hope greatly increased!)
