Sachin Tendulkar to get Bharat Ratna- Like countless others I admire Sachin as a cricketer and as a person he comes across.He shows us how to build a career over decades despite so many things going against it.In fact,what he build over decades is not just a career,its something greater,something more significant,to himself and especially to others.His longevity is unprecedented in cricket,and he is a source of inspiration for his generation(and generations to come)Today,was an emotional day,for Sachin and all of us.Even his critics must have stood up in respect. However,in spite of all this and more,I think he dosent deserve Bharat Ratna.make no mistake -this is neither the first time nor the last time this award has been misused.In fact awards in general are made,to be used by the people in power,and that implies abuse and misuse of all type of them.All awards are tools in hands of powerful,and they use these tools to get what they want.That been said,a misuse is a misuse and protest must be registered.It should be kept in mind that Sachin has been a contracted/salaried employee of BCCI,which dosent come under Govt.of India.He wears a BCCI cap,but that is a different issue altogether.That aside, all these cricketers are paid ridiculous money from any standard,so much so that youngsters have little motivation to think of any other sport.Come Olympics and well hang over our heads in shame again.Coming to cricketers,on their bad days,they draw their regular payment.On their good days,they get even more cash in form of awards.These guys are treated like rockstars and some are demi-gods,and this man is a God himself,apart from being one of the richest sports person on planet Earth.Anyway,for the God Bharat Ratna should be a major demotion.At best,this award adds nothing to his Godliness.Apart from Godliness etc.he also has everything that money can buy,thanks to the series of endorsements and IPL and returns from other investments.Though,I hate comparisons but its important to note that P.Gopicand had refused to endorse Cola (coke or pepsi,one of them) after wining All England Badminton Championship,he being just second Indian to achieve that feat after Prakash Padukone.Now that is what one calls character!what he achieved was phenomenal and what he sacrificed was exemplary!after he retired,he trains and grooms budding Badminton players.The idea is not to disparage Sachin, but its important to understand that overrating someone beyond proportion in present means handing him over to the vagaries of future;and the future might be cold and ruthless in passing judgement.i think he was better off without this award.But,as said earlier awards like Bharat Ratna are less for those who get it,they are for those who give them away.But,among all this Hungama whats most notable is the timing,the TIMING.......
