Sad case here so far, hoping for a turn of events. I received these two 5 week old shih tzu puppies who were fading fast, their sister had died right before they were brought to me. I gave them fluids, started them on antibiotics, and started feeding them. One ate on his own, the other was lifeless and had to be syringe fed. He died about 3 hours after I got him. The last puppy started improving, but we slowly uncovered his myriad of issues. For starters I diagnosed sarcoptic mange (contagious to people), and as you can see by the pictures I didnt know this at first and was not using gloves. His right eye has a large ulcer that I think may totally ruin the eye and necessitate removal, but for now I am giving it the benefit of the doubt and treating it. He has an umbilical hernia that will need to be surgically repaired. His tail looks dead. It may just be severely scabbed over from the mange, but it also may need to be amputated eventually. We are provided supportive care and helping him fight through all the odds that are stacked against him. Thanks for watching and supporting Vet Ranch.
