Sadly, this type of system is unlikely to happen in the States until we are collectively able to transcend the I got mine - yall can go f__k off and die attitude that seems to pervade any discourse around sustainable collective economic systems such as socialized medicine. A big part of this stems from the fact that we are the United STATES of America, where despite what those that espouse the Amerikun rhetoric, each State acts very much independent from all the others and only a VERY small portion of decisions about financial matters is devoted to the national collective sustainment. For instance, Texas has no income taxes AT ALL, where IL slaps a pretty hearty percentage above FICA, because Texas instead focuses their tax leverage on property taxes... :shaking my head in wonder: When I was a young, pie-in-the-sky idealist who dreamed of changing the world, I never in a million years would have dreamed that knowing all manner of things about tax laws, mergers and acquisitions, or corporate personhood would be the skill set Id need to develop to figure out how this all works to try and figure out whats broken...
