Salut concert details:- THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL SALUT! BAROQUE PROGRAM includes: Couperin, Corrette, Boismortier, Barrière and Dornel “It is no longer a matter of moving the listener, or pleasing him; the player must stun and shock him”. (Bollioud de Mermet, 1746) The changes in French musical style from the serious but elegant compositions as dictated by Louis XIV to the “trifling, frothy music” (Robert Price, 1760) of Corrette and Boismortier did not please everyone. And the changes did not end there after Louis XV came to the throne. The Court’s focus returned to Paris from the Sun King’s beloved Versailles, and in a complete change from the earlier period, composers and musicians began to receive funding from wealthy patrons rather than being employed by the Court. This allowed the Parisian public to hear music which had previously only been heard at the Court and also introduced a heady mix of new foreign composers, artists and genres from abroad. Salut!
