Saraki, who was earlier quizzed in August was later released on what was described as administrative bail. Sources close to the senator told the Nigerian Tribune in Abuja that the former governor has discharged himself on questions relating to the management of the defunct Societe Generale Bank of Nigeria(SGBN), which has now metamorphosed into Heritage Bank. It was also gathered that the former governor appeared to have cleared himself on questions put to him over the indebtedness of that bank by the EFCC. It was, however, confirmed that the former governor would be returning to EFCC for further questioning on Monday when he will be answering questions on the management of the resources of Kwara state while he served as governor. “I can confirm to you that the former governor has cleared himself of any wrong doing relating to the SGBN issue. He got a clean bill of health,” a source said. The source stated that the visit to the EFCC on Monday would afford Saraki the opportunity to clear himself of any wrong doing in the management of the bonds secured by the government of Kwara state under his watch. Spokesman of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, who confirmed Saraki’s scheduled visit to the commission, also said that the former governor was initially released on health grounds. He said that the Monday visit is in continuation of the ongoing interrogation by operatives of the EFCC. Meanwhile, The security aides of former governor of Kwara State and currently, a member of the National Assembly, Senator Bukola Saraki, have been withdrawn. According to a statement issued by his media aide, Mr Bamikole Omishore, the security personnel withdrawn were from the senator’s residences in Abuja and Ilorin. “The police officer, an inspector, who carried out the exercise, when confronted, disclosed that it was an order from above. “It should be noted that the withdrawn security men are legal rights as prescribed by virtue of Kwara State Pension Law of 2010, Third Schedule, Section 2 (3) paragraph H. The security details attached to Senator Saraki were, therefore, formally processed, approved and dispatched to his residences not out of favour or luxury demands. “In view of this new development, it is evidently clear to us that this cannot be unconnected with the recent political activities going on in the country. No doubt, recent events in the country have been taking strange and tragic dimensions, but we have to look beyond our individual interests and let the weight of making Nigeria great dominate our minds as leaders and citizens as Nigeria is bigger than an individual. “In view of the above position of the law, the Nigeria Police have contravened the law and disregarded same. We view this action as an act of harassment and intimidation to the person of Senator Saraki and we shall not hesitate to seek legal redress against this arbitrary decision. We wish to state that the recent move by the Nigeria police authorities will definitely endanger the life of Senator Bukola Saraki,” the statement said. “We hereby call on the good citizens of Nigeria to hold the Federal Government responsible for any eventuality, considering the fact that there are illegal arms going round the country without being properly checked. “Finally, Senator Saraki wishes to re-affirm his commitment and readiness to uphold the virtue of democracy, good governance, rule of law, equity and justice even in the face of this present intimidation and harassment as those are part of the sacrifices we must all make for a better Nigeria we will all be proud of,” the statement read.
