Sat 01st March Ballymoney Athletic U10 Ballysally Youth Club 3 After last weeks 2-1 win Athletic were on a high going into this game. Today they were up against Ballysally Youth Club who were an unknown quantity as they are a new team in this section. From the start it was a tough physical encounter between the two teams with not much separating them. Ballysally eventually managed to take the lead from a quick break that caught Ballymoney out, and then they scored another from a long range free kick that Reid had no chance of stopping between the posts. Ballymoney fought back hard with some fine moves and good pressure. Kirgan came close with a shot going inches wide. Baird and Patton had shots on target that forced good saves from the Ballysally keeper. Eventually this pressure was rewarded with a goal for Ballymoney with McCaughans corner kick beating the Ballysally defence and keeper to find its way into the net. The second half continued with good moves from both teams which kept the match very evenly balanced. Throughout the game, good defensive work from Campbell, Orr, Robinson, Maguire along with some fine saves from Reid kept Ballysally from scoring. Ballymoney eventually pulled a goal back to level the score with Larkin doing well to finish off a great team move by slotting the ball past the oncoming keeper. Shortly after this Ballysally got a goal back to take the lead again. In the final minutes of the game strong pressure from Ballymoney saw them hit the Ballysally woodwork on two separate occasions and they were unlucky not to score. They even thought they had finally grabbed the equaliser in the dying seconds when Kirgans shot looked to have crossed the line, but unfortunately the referees decision was that the ball never crossed the line. Overall a good team performance by Ballymoney Athletic U10 on a very cold and wet afternoon in Ballysally.
