** Saturday, 7 September ------------------------------------------------------------ ** "The Son of man is lord of the Sabbath" ------------------------------------------------------------ ** Scripture: Luke 6:1-5 ------------------------------------------------------------ On a Sabbath, while he was going through the grain fields, his disciples plucked and ate some heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands. But some of the Pharisees said, "Why are you doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath?" And Jesus answered, "Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God, and took and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those with him?" And he said to them, "The Son of man is lord of the Sabbath." * "Lord Jesus, you refresh us with your presence and you sustain us with your life-giving word. Show me how to lift the burden of others, especially those who lack the basic necessities of life, and to refresh them with humble care and service." ------------------------------------------------------------ ** Psalm 54:1-7 ------------------------------------------------------------ Save me, O God, by your name, and vindicate me by your might. Hear my prayer, O God; give ear to the words of my mouth. For insolent men have risen against me, ruthless men seek my life; they do not set God before them. [Selah] Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is the upholder of my life. With a freewill offering I will sacrifice to you; I will give thanks to your name, O LORD, for it is good. For you have delivered me from every trouble, and my eye has looked in triumph on my enemies.
