Saturday I made the post "What does "encountering God" mean to you?" And Sister Ronda Guest Townsend suggested that we read the bulletin for a perspective to that question. I asked her to post that write up for us and here it is. Others feel free to add your input and thanks to those of you that did Saturday. "Have you ever felt such a deep desire to be closer to God that you couldn’t contain your feelings? One of the most intimate encounters between man and God ever recorded is in Exodus 33:18-23. Moses made a passionate plea to see God’s glory. His request was not for a display of God’s power or even the warmth of His presence, but he hungered for something more: Moses wanted an intimate knowledge of God Himself. That desire is the very reason God hid Moses in the cleft of the rock and manifested His glory, so Moses was not only exposed to the light of the divine afterglow, but enraptured by the fullness of His Person—His character; the One who is compassionate, gracious, and just. Moses had received God’s promises, seen God’s power, and been guaranteed God’s presence. But the only thing that would ever evoke a lasting sense of wonder and fulfill with lasting satisfaction was God’s Person. Moses’ desire to see God is an example for us to seek God and to hunger and thirst after righteousness. Through prayer, fasting, and reading of His Word we can draw close to Him and find His perfect will in our lives." Great word and thank you, Sister Ronda!
