Saturday Movie Matinee: The Last Man on Earth (Full Film) This was the first film version of Richard Matheson’s I Am Legend, and to me, the best. Romero has stated the idea for Night of the Living Dead came from Matheson’s novel, but watching Last Man, you can’t help but notice the huge stylistic similarities Romero owes to this movie as well, from the black and white cinematography to the ordinariness of the vampires/zombies. And who would have thought of Vincent Price playing Robert Neville? The movie takes place in 1968, and was actually filmed in Rome, Italy.
