Saturday seen us travel to basement boys Stalbirdge, and even with there league position you can never write this team off and they will always give you a game when you travel there. Before we travelled we were down to bare bones with players missing. Captain Sam Hewitt understandably did not travel after the birth of his new baby girl on wednesday, Solid centre midfielder Rich Mason was also on our injury list with a knee injury, top scorer Tom Beazley was out with a knee injury and full back Adam Feltham was in Rotherham watching his new found love Bournemouth. This meant starts for Martin Bealing, Gaffer Josh Feirn and a welcome return for James Bethel. With players missing we slightly changed our approach and formation and went to a 4-5-1 with Andy Kelly, Darren Critchell, James Bethel and Josh Feirn along the back line, They were sat behind a strong midfield consisting off Martin Bealing, Nick Critchell, Jake Ford, Alex White and Callum Goddard. Tom Haines led the line on his own upfront. We started extremely quickly wanting to make our presence known to Stalbridge and when a ball fell to Tom Haines at the back post it seemed easier to score in an open goal but unfortunately he took his eyes off the ball and spurned the opportunity to put us 1-0 up in the opening minute. We did however continue to dominate the opening stages and were causing all sorts of problem in the big gaps that were left by Stalbrige. The deadlock was broken when Alex White raced clear down the right and when a shot/cross fell to Tom Haines he made no mistake this time slotting it in to make it 1-0. We carried on pressing and our two wingers were finding plenty of space to get at there opposing full back, when Alex White rushed clear again his shot bounced off the keeper and with there centre half on the goal line Tom Haines composed himself brilliantly to find the gap with his head. With the game going all the right way we lost concentration and a simple ball over our defence caught us napping but luckily there striker smashed it down the throat of goal keeper Paul newton who knocked it over. From the resulting corner again we made a mistake and when we did not clear the corner it fell to a Stalbridge player who easily knocked it in to make a game of things. The half came to a close and on a real heavy pitch both teams found it hard to play the ball around. HT 2-1 We started the second half exactly the same as the first, Tom Haines raced clear and when he round the keeper he was very unfortunate to hit the post from a tight angle. In the first 20 minutes of the second half there was very few chances, the odd attempt from Jake Ford in the centre and some determined runs from the centre midfielder unfortunately did not result in much. We were finding it very difficult to pick passes and play it around with as mentioned the pitch being very heavy and starting to cut up. Alex White took it into his hands to kill this game off and when a deflected effort fell to him he made no mistake slotting it in to make himself the joint top scorer in the league. With us struggling to get a foot hold even with the score line we went back to our more normal formation of 3-5-2 and straight away we got control of the game and did not look like conceding. James Bethel was pushed up into the centre and this change worked well as he slotted the ball home from 18yards to kill the game and make it 4-1. Our man of the match was voted Martin Bealing for a solid display on the wing. After not getting game time for the last couple of weeks it was always going to be hard from him to come in and produce a good display, but he did this and there winger could not handle him all game. This saturday sees us travel to Portland Town before we have a top of the table clash against Wool & Winfrith at Stickland.
