Say Nǐ hǎo, Néih Hóu, and Hello to ORT’s Andy Sun I understand the challenge of moving to a new country, a new culture and trying to assimilate. Los Angeles ORT College has a tradition of helping newcomers adjust to the work environment and prosper in the new society. Working hard behind the scenes to improve the educational experience and career prospects for our students, ORT College’s staff and faculty exceed expectations every day. This week, let’s take a few moments to learn more about our educational advisor, Andy Sun. From China With Love Andy helps students choose the right programs and courses, answers questions, gives advice, and even assists our students in finding career opportunities, like externships, outside of school. The son of a Nuclear Power Engineer and a Doctor, Andy was born in China and grew up on the mainland as well as Hong Kong. At the age of 19, he moved to the U.S., and has been here ever since. Andy found work first as a salesman before managing over 20 employees at a popular art supply store, and eventually joining the ORT team. Real Help From Real Experience Thanks to his own life as an immigrant in the U.S., Andy provides unique assistance to both current and prospective students. Andy creates a comfortable atmosphere for non-native speakers, especially among our international ESL students. It’s great to know there’s someone you can talk to that has made it through the same experiences you might face. Oh, and did we mention he’s fluent in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and many Chinese dialects? Building a Better Future for Students and Neighbors As someone who loves to help others, Andy keeps up the good deeds outside of school, too! Holding the office of Secretary for the Los Angeles Overseas Lions Club, Andy works hard to serve the local community. This includes helping the homeless and hungry, improving the lives of the blind or visually impaired, and even promoting healthier living through bicycle riding. And after all that, Andy still finds the time to volunteer at his local church in Alhambra!
