Scams Location of Incident: Yuma County, AZ The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office has received numerous calls in reference to a scam that is occurring throughout Yuma County. Reporting parties told Deputies that they have received a telephone call from an unknown suspect who was claiming to be Sgt. Adams or Sgt. Parker (names that are being used) with the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office or Yuma Police Department Warrant Division. The suspect would inform the victims that they had missed jury duty and a warrant would be issued for their arrest if they did not pay a fine. The suspect is instructing the victims to purchase a Green Dot money card, place a certain amount of money on the card and have the victim call them back at (928) 200-9667 once they completed the process. Once on the phone, the suspect will request the Green Dot money card number from the victim and remove the money from the card. The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public that: · We do not make any calls for collection of monies, i.e., fines, fees, bonds, etc. · We do not request credit card information over the phone. · We do not provide any warrant information to the public over the phone. · When in doubt, ask the caller for a contact name and phone number for verification purposes and contact the Sheriff’s Office immediately at (928) 783-4427. If you believe you have been a victim or have received any of these calls, you are asked to contact your local law enforcement agency.
