School anxiety/placement community query, autistic perspectives requested: My mainstreamed AS son is really stressed by school, but refuses some of the supports I would advocate for as he doesnt want to seem different. Letting him study at home isnt an option, as he would be alone too much of the day while I work. For his mental health, I think that a nearby private school that specializes in AS students might be much better for him in his senior year. He doesnt want to change schools, for fear of losing the couple of students that he calls friends (no contact outside school is happening). So for the autistic folks, what is your opinion on self-determination in this case and can you shed light on whether the smaller specialized school might be a good option? -SR
