Scientifically we pretty well know that time, space and matter/energy had a beginning at a point in the finite past. The Laws of Thermodynamics make a beginningless universe impossible. Philosophically we know, as well, that such a beginning took place, for if time, space and matter/energy had no beginning we would never have reached the point in time in which we presently find ourselves. Furthermore, the universe--the sun, etc.--would have died from a heat-death, would have burned out an eternity ago, and we wouldnt have been here. The Laws of Thermodynamics establish that the universe cannot be infinitely old. Keep in mind that Laws pertain to the best established facts of science. We also know that it would be a contradiction, a logical impossibility, to say that time, space and matter/energy caused itself, for then the universe would have had to exist before it brought itself into existence. But what, then, is left in the way of causal options, but the antithesis of time, space and matter/energy, namely, the timeless infinitude of eternity, non-spatiality, and immateriality? The question, thus, is, what causal option(s), if any, is/are available to us from that alternative realm, if you will, that could explain the existence of all that we know about? Why is there not just absolute nothingness? (No time, no eternity, no space, no non-spatiality, no materiality--e.g. no brains-- no non-materiality--e.g. no minds-- no logic, no absurdity, no consciousness, no non-consciousness, no life, no death, no love, no lovelessness, no morality, no immorality, no truth, no falsehood, andsoforth) Thats the million dollar question, isnt it? One thing is for sure, and that is that when it comes to reality we are up against something that is bigger than you or I. Concur?
