Scientists: New Ebola test can detect virus in early stages Scientists in Boston believe theyve found a way to diagnose Ebola before patients begin showing symptoms. The Ebola virus can incubate for between two and 21 days before symptoms appear. Health officials trying to contain its spread cant act until a patient starts complaining of fever, headache, muscle pain, vomiting and diarrhea. And once symptoms do appear, theyre similar to those of other illnesses including other types of hemorrhagic fevers such as Marburg (an Ebola cousin) and Lassa virus, a few cases of which have been imported to Canada since 1969. Current diagnostic tests cant identify the virus in its early stages. But researchers at Boston University Medical Center said theyve developed a test that can tell the difference between Ebola and other hemorrhagic fevers and can detect Ebola as early as three days after a patient was exposed to the bodily fluids of an infected person. Their findings appear in the journal BMC Genomics. The current outbreak of Ebola has killed nearly 5,000 people, mostly in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone.wow read this one drivers everybody else here 10-4
