Scientists from the College University in London have published an article in the Lancet about the effects of Simvastatin (a drug typically used in cardiology) on multiple sclerosis (MS). The study has shown that patients who regularly took doses of Simvastatin had a 43% lower rate of brain nervous tissue decay than patients in the control group. The scientists attribute these findings to the supposed anti-inflammatory and neuro-protective properties of Simvastatin. However the main author of the study dr Chatway suggests caution in the interpretation of the results. Although Simvastatin slows down the neurodegenerative process it does not alleviate the symptoms of the disease.
