Scores injured in clashes admitted in hospitals Many Youth Don’t Report Injuries, Fearing Police Reprisal SHABIR IBN YUSUF Srinagar, July 22: Scores of persons injured in protests and police action after the Gool killings are being treated in hospitals. At least 35 such persons from across Kashmir were admitted in SKIMS and SMHS Hospital since Thursday evening when the news of the Gool killings came in. District hospital Islamabad (Anantnag) has treated 18 injured, among them five have bullet injuries. Six injured were brought to Baramulla district hospital. Official sources said that 25 injured were admitted in SKIMS and among them 7 have been discharged and two have been shifted to SKIMS medical college hospital. “As many as 16 are still admitted here,” officiating Medical Superintendant of SKIMS, Dr Farooq Ahmad Jan told Greater Kashmir. He said that injuries were due to pellets and stones. About the Noorbagh youth Jan Muhammad Khanday, who fell from two storey house during a police chase, Dr Farooq said that he was under observation. “Khanday has no serious brain injury,” he said and added that doctors are treating his D12 fracture. About the Baramulla youth, Danish Maqbool Moon, Dr Farooq said he is also stable. “He is under observation,” he said. Danish received police pellets in his head during clashes at Khanpora Bridge Sunday afternoon and was immediately rushed to SKIMS. A senior doctor at SKIMS said that more injured have come to the hospital; however they don’t get admitted officially. “They do so to save themselves from police,” the doctor said. In SMHS Hospital, 10 injured persons were brought and among them nine were discharged, said Medical Superintendent SMHS Hospital, Dr Nazir Ahmad. He said that they were different kinds of injuries. Official sources said that at least 18 injured persons were brought to District Hospital Islamabad (Anantnag) in last three days. Among them official sources said that five bullet injuries were brought from Kulgam district of south Kashmir. Doctors at District Hospital Baramulla said that six injured persons were brought to the hospital and one among them was shifted to SKIMS for treatment. Since the Gool killings, violent protests rocked almost all parts of Kashmir and subsequent clashes left at least 300 people injured.
