Scott vs. His Unruly Lawn, episode two: Trial by Fire So, as some people may recall, last week my long suffering and thereto faithful weedwhacker of seven years died in my hands while churning violently at top speed. Fortune of fortunes, I was uninjured. The lawn, however, was still a mess. Enter my good friend and rollie, Chris Minich, who generously gave me his no longer needed electric string trimmer. Last night I set out again, undaunted, to tame the beast. After reloading the newly acquired weedwhacker with trimmer string (again, generously provided by Min) and securing my 50 ft. extension cord, I set out to tame the front of my property because it was easily within reach. After about 20 minutes of relative victory, the weedwacker began to protest slightly at the incredible harshness of the task it was presented with. It was slowing a bit, and I had to coax it more and more to get it to do the job. Suddenly, it could bare no more and refused to continue. Rather than simply give up the ghost in a quiet and dignified death, however, this string trimmer, in a final display of rage, satanically burst into flames after emitting a thick plume of noxious white smoke. Your objection has been noted. I stated somberly, something like a eulogy, as I cast it onto the junk pile forming in my driveway. I then resolved to buy a helicopter because it will take such magnificent blades to tame my lawn.
