Scottish troops on the War of 1812s Niagara frontier: From 25 January 1812 ,,,the 1st (or Royal Scors) Regiment of Foot...had four battalions, the 1st Battalion being moved from the West Indies to Canada, arriving at Quebec City in August 1812 and posted there with detachments in the Montreal area. It had eight center or battalion companies, a grenadier company and a light company..Most of the battalion gradually moved to Kingston and the Niagara peninsula from the spring of 1813 and took part in the capture of Fort Niagara in December. By April 1814 its headquarters was at Fort George and, in July, most of the battalion took part in the battles of Chippewa and Lundys Lane as well as in the siege of Fort Erie during August and September, its last engagement being at Cooks Mills in October. It then settled into Fort Niagara until January 1815 when transferred to Quebec City before leaving for England in February. Meanwhile the 4th Battalion has arrived at Quebec City and served there until its return to Europe in May 1815. (Rene Chartrand, 1st Regiment of Foot, Military Collector & Historian, Fall 2012, 185).
