Sea Point Railway Station Cape Times, 24 May 1932 After - TopicsExpress

Sea Point Railway Station Cape Times, 24 May 1932 After the Anglo-Boer War, the railway opened again on 30th November 1905. However, competition from the Electric Tramway Company began to take its toll. At last in 1913, the Union Government took over and the Sea Point line became part of the South African Railways but for the next 14 years the railway continued to run at a loss. Electrification of the line came in 1927, and the Sea Point Railway had the distinction of being the first to be driven by electricity in the Cape Province. But the railway that never paid was doomed. On 16th April 1929, the last train for Sea Point terminus and intermediate stations were demolished and the railway track pulled up. A chapter in the history of Green Point and Sea Point was ended. (Source: Mouille Point Ratepayers Association) Hilton T via Flickr.
