Sea Star. I spotted this stranded sea star earlier on this - TopicsExpress

Sea Star. I spotted this stranded sea star earlier on this morning at Foreness Point/Bay, still alive. This is the first time I have taken a proper photo of these before, so switched to my macro lens and took a few pictures. When I was done, I picked it up and dropped it into deep waters. Marine scientists have undertaken the difficult task of replacing the beloved starfish’s common name with sea star because, well, the starfish is not a fish. It’s an echinoderm, closely related to sea urchins and sand dollars. Sea stars can live up to 35yrs in the wild. Also they have no brains and no blood. Their nervous system is spread through their arms and their “blood” is actually filtered sea water.
