Search on your own Synonyms/comparison Two words in English are used to give the meaning of a hypothetical, non-real or a not-yet-proven question. The words are synonyms to the verb SUPPOSE. The point of interest came out of a question which was once posed to a teacher. A student asked what the difference between ASSUME and PRESUME is, or may be. The teacher then answered: Both indicate the SAME meaning. You may wish to look up the two words in the dictionary to probe and conclude whether it can be assumed that these two words bear no material difference, as the teacher once presumed.
