Season of Open Letters: Where Is Our Youths Morals? Emmanuel - TopicsExpress

Season of Open Letters: Where Is Our Youths Morals? Emmanuel Nicholas, If I may guess right, you are trying to project the Good Image of the Governor, whom I and many others including Uwem Umanah, Essien Ndueso, Anietie James and few brilliant others had started a course of full Online Media defence for, without requesting or ever receiving a penny for such purpose even before you subscribed to the online forums. Ete, the Governor I know, in his highest skills and sense of humility will not send such lines to the well-respected General. Sir, that you are privileged to hold the mouse doesnt doctrinate you into clicking the send button with insulting messages, wrapped with foul languages to people whose shoe lace you cannot remove. That the season has been juxtaposed into era of Open Letters shouldnt be milked further by mere touts and irresponsible fellow who are bent in either creating more problem and as well causing more ethnic friction in the state. We should wake up and learn from the people who surrounds His Excellency, Mr President, Chief Goodluck Jonathan. His kind of leadership and style should reflect in the reality of our daily approach to Governance and leadership. When the ex-president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo sent his 14 paged letter to H.E Dr. Goodluck Jonathan (GCON), we will assume that the media gurus such as Reuben Abati, H. Nwosu. Labaran Maku and many other aides were milked with lot of fallacies, inculcated attitudes, cognitive strategies, professional methodology, excellent and well-scripted messages and pieces to put up against the former president, but respect to the office and person of the former President coupled with good moral values, exposure and high self-esteem kept them out of such ill-behaviour. In precedent years, I have learnt that we tend to create more problem, where violent do not even abound. Some years ago, the foremost Annang philanthropist and politician, our dear elder brother Chief (Dr.) Ime Umanah had some issues with the State Governor. No matter how heavy it was presumed to be, we have the Socio-cultural organisations, the Apex body of the Annang tribe (Afe Annang) who would have acted like a medium in bringing peace to the duo, as commonly found in the Sulatan, The Emir, The Oni, The Ezeife, The Baales palaces etc, but rather what I read in the pages of newspapers was a communique, signed by our Annang elders, disowning Chief Ime Umanah, and I asked my Uncle, Sir, why is Dr. Ime disowned, is he no more the Ufan Ndito Ubuene, what of the story that attributes the creation of our dear State during his days of parley with Gen Ibrahim Babangida in 1987 to his well-intended love for his motherland? And my uncle couldnt respond. I hope one day, he will see reasons with my suggestions. That fight was over heated by our supposed to be leaders, aides, stomach politicians and PAs, leaving projects that were handled by Dr. Umanah on-behalf of the State Government to suffer. Did we really deserve that long communique with different signatures that disowned one of our own? Again, another incidence played forth, and it was a mail sent in by Chief Assam Assam (SAN) to our dear Secretary to State Government, Mr. Udom Emmanuel. As the message went, I read and read and read over the lines, and words were not found to fill the reply basket, because I was not Mr. U. G. Emmanuel, and lacked the capacity to respond to such a big one. I kept calm, and in all my expectations, I was so shocked to read different lines abusing the distinguished Senior Advocate of Nigeria and current Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Russia. Words failed me, when young men within the age range of 27- 35 took that bold initiative in abusing one of our Fathers because of the era of interest and stomach politics. Sunday 26th January, 2014 had prepared my mind with a high regard for Udom Emmanuel. I saw in him a man who was filled with Thanksgiving to God for all He has done for him. I saw a man who has the ability to live in the feelings of gratitude to God, which is an important and intrinsic part in the life of a spiritual person with much to desire in future. I saw a gentleman with the enthuthiastic passion in making the best in every opportunity. However, I saw a failed status when I read his response to Chief Assam Ekanem Assams letter, insisting that his 68 years was out of civility and decorum, and making all efforts in putting to the world that the former has no roof over his head in his village. Again, I pondered over other messages that accompanied the said SSGs letter and I kept insisting that this letter cant be written by that fine gentleman I had once listened to. I threw a bet with my friends in my office and I still have the feelings that Udom Emmanuel may one day return from a long trip to deny ever sending such letter. How I wish! But then, was other peoples response necessary? Was it the time to abuse and insult our own? I read with dismay, an accompanying mail by my dear brother Steven Nelson informing the forumites that Chief Assam was the reason why the ex-millitants caused a riot in far away Russia, and I echoed over to other guests in the room, without them knowing what I actually communicated. I shouted because I was in company of Chief Assam Assam to Mr. President on that fateful night, where he had come to arrange for the Economic Summit in Russia, only to be informed through a telephone call, that the anxious ex- militants had invaded his office and caused confusion over their un-paid entitlements. I was shocked because I and Chief Assam were in the same convoy that drove straight to Mr. President to report Mr. Kingsley Kuku- The SA to Mr. President on Niger Delta Affairs and the Chairman of Presidential Amnesty Programmes refusal to meet up with the ex-millitants monthly allowances. I wont forget a thunderous voice that came with a bold face, while Chief Assam explained the situation to Mr. President. That Night, I heard the President informed, I will fetch my CSO, and Mr. Kuku to settle the matter urgently- The President responded. That swift step by Chief Assam brought peace back to the camp of the ex-millitants. Chief Assam is one brilliant force, who have painstakingly and diligently insured the full implementation of the Amnesty Programme, and the nation has benefited immensely from the pacification of the Niger Delta agitators of the amnesty programme, which Chief Assam is one of the strongest force Therefore, reading through such lines was a dis-service to the Ambassadors efforts in contributing to the development of Nigeria. I wished, we had carried on with our youthful show of respect and allow our elders to settle their differences, when and where it calls for. Another funny episode was the recall of Senator Aloysius Etok, by people who felt he had some mild differences to settle with his friend and political mentor- The Governor. What would have been settled through peace, dialogue and prayers was rather becoming a near-ethnic war between the few people of our brothers of the Ibibio extraction and the Annangs. People who would have called both leaders to order were rather busy campaigning for the Senators recall from the senate, thereby over heating the polity. How shameful were they, when His Excellency, my number one fan broke the protocol and ordered for a long time to stop over and exchange pleasantries with his friend, the Senator! Havent we still learnt from this man who epitomises peace and humility? Today, it is the turn of General Akpan, and someone is waking up with trash and abuses on the Ex-General!!!! If I may ask, who sent you bros? Like the saying that goes, Asuene iwad isi inyeneke iwad I guess its high time we learnt the culture of respect, and more of keeping quiet when our elders are on top gear to political differences and rather have them in our daily thoughts and prayers. Like Job, I will always pray for my friends and leaders, and have the Lord restored fortune to me- Job 42:10 Mkposong Asuquo Writes from Accra, Ghana
