Our January meeting will be held on Thursday, January 29th, 6:30 - 8:30pm at the Peninsula School for Autism (Jefferson Ave location). We are pleased to announce our presentation for the evening will be Medicaid Waivers, delivered by our own Joy Spencer from Moms In Motion. All meetings are open to the public. What Is A Medicaid Waiver? A Medicaid Waiver provides individuals with disabilities with services to help them with activities of daily living so that they may stay in the community and avoid nursing facility placement. It also provides relief in the form of respite for the primary caregiver.As the mother of a neuro-typical child and a child with Asperger’s Syndrome, Joy has been active in the world of disabilities for over 6 years. She has a Math degree and an MBA with an emphasis in Technology Management. Her training in disabilities includes VCU’s program for Family Navigators, Person-Centered Thinking, and the Virginia Board for People with Disabilities specialized training to be a Partner In Policymaking (class of 2011). Joy has been doing Medicaid Service Facilitation for about 4 years and is currently the Chief Operating Officer for Moms In Motion, which is a Medicaid Waiver Service Facilitation, Case Management, and Advocacy organization. Her passion is to enhance the outcomes for all people with disabilities and their families, by using person-centered practices, providing superior service, sharing resources, continually expanding her knowledge, and networking.
