Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Potential Attacks in the Democratic Republic of the Congo The U.S. Embassy in Kinshasa warns U.S. citizens of the dangers of traveling to Beni, located in the North Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). In April 2014, the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) publicly announced its intention to attack three DRC military installations in Beni. The ADF may also be planning to conduct other criminal activities in the region with the possible intention of targeting westerners. The U.S. Embassy Kinshasa advises U.S. citizens to avoid travel to Beni and surrounding areas. If travel is unavoidable, you should exercise increased caution. All U.S. citizens are reminded of their personal responsibility for their own safety and security as well as that of their family members while traveling abroad. By enrolling, U.S. citizens gain access to vital security information and enable the U.S. Embassy to contact them in case of emergency.
