Seeing Kiss yesterday in the Macys Parade reminded me of this - TopicsExpress

Seeing Kiss yesterday in the Macys Parade reminded me of this throwback: In 1981 we had the Record Plant White Truck up in Canada at Bob Ezrins house doing overdubs on a Kiss album. One evening Im sitting in Bobs basement, quietly reading the autographed copy of All You Need is Ears that George Martin had given him while Bob, Gene, and Paul were trying to layer background vocals on a song to sound like some sort of Nordic choir. Only problem was, being two baritones and a tenor, it wasnt sounding full enough on the bottom end. Bob looks over at me and says: DB, you went to music school, didnt you? Yes, I went to Fredonia I replied. What was your instrument? Id rather not say. Bob starts to scowl at me and says I bet you were a voice major, werent you? Yeah, Bob, Im afraid I was. I bet you can sing low bass notes, cant you? Yeah, most days I have a pretty good low D Then he yells Then get your ass over here and help sing this part! Many years later when I played this song for my kids they fell out on the floor laughing at so clearly hearing their dad singing on a Kiss song. I have always thought that Aces simple but effective guitar solo played with just a tape delay was really good though. youtube/watch?v=nOTUPhS7cPA
