THE QUEENSLAND PLAN | With the plan calling for 50 per cent of the population to live outside the southeast by 2034, the Newman and Abbott governments began talks this year on a quota system to funnel migrants into cities such as Cairns and Townsville. But on the day the plan is released, no such agreement has been reached, and we know that migrants rarely want to live (or stay once the initial migration qualifying period is over) in the regions. This story comment from out back jack might also bring a dose of reality: Funneling migrants into cities such as Cairns and Townsville what a wonderful scheme, my last check of unemployment figures had these two cities leading the unemployment figures by a huge margin. Youth unemployment in these two cities is alarmingly high with no prospect of improving. I hope this proposal has better success the Mr. Whitlam’s labor party decentralizing policy introduced years ago, the proposal was good policy but Australian people wanted to and still do want to live on the eastern seaboard, governments need to open their eyes and look at the age of farmers in Nth.Qld. most cases farms are still managed by the over 50 year olds and the youth are off to the big smoke.
