Seems like 30% is not enough Whilst on average 5% of any EU country is built-up, the corresponding figure for Malta is 30% (i.e. 6 times more). Our population density does not help but so does our inability to use land in a more frugal and prudent way (70,000 vacant properties, for instance). Now, the latest nail in the coffin - as I have repeatedly anticipated in my newspaper columns, the development zones are to be enlarged once again, as confirmed by Parliamentary Secretary Michael Falzon in this interview with Maltatoday So Michael - more firework factories, more so-called agritourism projects in ODZ areas, extended hunting and trapping seasons, and now this.......further sanctioned development in what were once ODZ areas, under the premise that injustices meted out in 2006 need to be corrected? For starters, this extension cant take place before 2016 (since the boundary extension in 2006 stipulated a 10-year moratorium on further extensions) and secondly, I can already anticipate further injustices being meted out in 2016, so as to justify a further tweaking in 2026....and the cycle of rot goes on.... maltatoday.mt/news/national/47418/development_boundaries_to_be_tweaked_again#.VI7x9JJTN8E
