Seems like I post this story a lot but it really happens about twice a month exactly the same way. I get a call from someone who says their dog is very sick, after a few questions I find out that its a female unspayed and has discharge coming from the vagina. I explain to them that she has pyometra which is a uterus infection and needs to be spayed as soon as possible. I tell them the price which normally runs between $200 and $600 depending on the size of the dog. They go to another vet office spend about $500 on blood work and x-rays to find out that the dog has pyometra... And now they want the surgery free because theyve spent all their money getting confirmation of what I diagnosed over the phone. I get called all kinds of mean names because if I was a true animal lover I would do the surgery free... But yet they did not expect the other vet to do x-rays or blood work for free.... And when that Vet quotes them between $500 and $2000 to do the surgery they didnt ask him to do it for free... But yet I am the evil one. Please spay your pets! It does not matter if its Grannys little poodle that never goes outside and will never get pregnant. Still gets pyometra and it still gets memory tumors and why on earth would you want a dog bleeding on your furniture in the first place. Spay young, while its cheap, easier on the dog, and better for her health. Neuter males young, avoid humping, marking territory, chasing ladies, aggression, and prostate issues. Simple!
