Selfishly I wanted to share one last ride with Kyle, even if hospice had to be our destination. So I ran through the halls of Mayo Clinic trying to catch up with my brothers ambulance. I made it in time. I sat up front in the cab; of course he was in the back. But by the time I arrived, Kyle had already placed his typical stamp of love on the whole scene. Somehow he had been able to indicate where we grew up. The man driving was also from Keystone Heights. So rather than any question about Kyle or his family or future, the lively driving discussion was about the merits of small town living and so forth. Just when I thought I could take no more, it dawned on me that Kyle had created this moment. Quietly. Without effort. Like he always does. And like I always TRY to do, I settled in behind his lead; and did my best to follow along with the discussion.
