Seneca Grade School Raises Money for Tornado Relief An event that started as a bake sale by the seventh and eighth grade Lady Raider Basketball teams, became a school and then a community- wide effort on Thursday, November 21. The team wanted to do something for the tornado victims and their families. The bake sale was given final go ahead on Wednesday morning and by Thursday afternoon the items pouring into the Commons at South Campus were beyond any expectations. The parents of team members baked through the night, staff and cafeteria members brought in items to assist the project and through the communication efforts on Facebook and the Seneca City Website, community members were bringing in items. In less than 24 hours the bake sale had gone from the efforts of 29 girls and their coaches to become an endeavor that involved the whole community. Our PSO donated their proceeds from the concession that night as well. The wife of a Seneca World War II veteran had seen the announcement on the internet and responded with cupcakes and a pie. Her quote was, “It is so rewarding to see children see the need and want to do something to help. Your students do so much during the September 11 program to honor our veterans that I want to help them now.” It was that sentiment that exploded into an amazing total community effort. It is with gratitude and awe that Seneca Grade School expresses a heartfelt, “Thank You”, to all that helped in this endeavor. The amount collected from the one day event was $1037.60. The donations will continue in the South Campus office until Tuesday, November 26, at noon. All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross in Coal City/Diamond. The amount collected from the one day event was, $1037.60.
