Separate and apart from the [George Zimmerman] case that has drawn the nation’s attention, its time to question laws that senselessly expand the concept of self-defense and sow dangerous conflict in our neighborhoods… Attorney General Eric Holder The attorney general fails to understand that self-defense is not a concept, its a fundamental human right… To send a message that legitimate self-defense is to blame is unconscionable, and demonstrates once again that this administration will exploit tragedies to push their political agenda. Chris W. Cox, Executive Director NRA Institute for Legislative Action Andrew’s Note: The ‘concept’ that the Attorney General is discussing is ‘Stand Your Ground’ legislation that is the law of the land in a number of the States including Florida. The Attorney General appears to be conveniently forgetting when he invokes the Zimmerman case is that Stand Your Ground did not apply to that case in any way. Stand Your Ground eliminates the ‘requirement’ to retreat when threatened that exists in most of our States but if someone is sitting on your chest, no retreat is possible.
