Separatists condemn Sumbal killings, call for shutdown today Geelani Addresses Mourners, Mirwaiz Appoints Fact-Finding Mission, Malik Detained GK News Network REACTION Srinagar, June 30: Separatist groups in Kashmir have strongly condemned the killing of two youth by Army in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district saying that the “trigger-happy uniformed men have the license to kill Kashmiris”. They have also called for a complete shutdown on Monday (July 1) to protest against the killings. Asking people to observe complete shutdown and hold protest demonstrations on Monday, Hurriyat ConferNorthern ence (G) chairman Sayeed Ali Shah Geelani termed the incident as “worst instance of state terrorism”. Castigating forces, Geelani said the youth were killed by troopers days after Prime Minister’s visit to convey that New Delhi with its military might would continue its forced occupation of J&K. “They are not accountable for their misdeeds and under the garb of AFSPA, the troopers enjoy impunity and are authorized to kill any Kashmiri and go unaccounted for crimes they commit,” Geelani said. Lashing out at Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Geelani said that Markundal (Sumbal) tragedy has once again proved that he (Omar Abdullah) is merely a show-boy and the state administration exists just for namesake. “It is the forces’ that run affairs in the state and people are at their mercy,” he said, adding that forces personnel involved in the killing of innocent people cannot be prosecuted in any court of law. Terming AFSPA and Disturbed Areas Act (DAA) as a license to kill Kashmiris, Geelani said that thousands were killed during the past 23 years but not a single force’s personnel responsible for the heinous crime was brought to justice. In a telephonic address to funeral procession of the youth killed at Sumbal today, Geelani expressed deep sorrow and extended his sympathies and condolence to the bereaved families and mourners. He paid glowing tributes to the martyrs. Geelani also urged people to boycott upcoming elections and added that India in order to mislead international community projects these elections as an approval to Indian authority and their occupation. h urriyaAt (M) Expressing serious concern over the “cold blooded murder” of two youth by the army, Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has also called for a complete shutdown and protest demonstrations on Monday against the killings. Mirwaiz said the “state terrorism” against Kashmiris which is based on revenge can have serious consequences. “Kashmiris would never accept domination and revengeful behavior,” he said. Mirwaiz said the amalgam has appointed a fact-finding mission to prepare a full report regarding the incident. He said the team has been given the deadline of July 2 to present its report before the amalgam. “On the same day, we have decided to convene an emergency meeting (of the amalgam) to study the report and decide whether to file the case in the International Criminal court so as to inform the world and international human rights organizations about the state sponsored terrorism,” he said. Mirwaiz said there has been no change on the ground in Kashmir. “Here no day passes without killings and bloodshed which aptly portrays the real situation prevailing in the state,” he said. jkl F Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Muhammad Yasin Malik has strongly condemned the killing of Irfan Nabi of Markundal Sumbal and Tariq Ahmad Laharwal of Kondabal Sumbal by the Army. Calling for a complete shutdown tomorrow against “the massacre of innocent Kashmiris”, Malik appealed people to express their anger against this brutality by observing complete strike. Terming it as another glaring example of “Indian state terrorism,” Malik said this form of terrorism has been unleashed in Jammu and Kashmir by the “so-called” largest democracy. “A day before Indian Foreign Minister was giving us a lesson to forget and forgive and after only some hours his forces have once again shown their ugly brutal face and killed more innocents,” he said. Malik said that Kashmiris are not safe even in their own homes. “The sacred blood of Kashmiris cannot go unnoticed and Indian state and its Kashmiri puppets, who will now start shedding crocodile tears on these killings, according to the divine law of retribution of crimes will have to reply for these criminal acts,” he said. Malik, according to JKLF statement, along with other leaders of the party left for Sumbal as soon as he received the news of the killings. “On reaching Sumbal, Yasin Sahab and others were stopped by a large contingent of police and CRPF and arrested on the spot,” it said, adding that those who have been arrested include besides Malik, Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi, Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri and Shahid Makaya. The spokesman said JKLF (H) Chairman Javed Ahmad Mir was also arrested on the occasion. Meanwhile JKLF district president Bandipora Syed Nisar Jeelani along with a delegation that included Captain Javed, Ishfaq Ahmad, Bilal Ahmad and Muhammed Sultan reached Markundal Hajin and Koundbal Sumbal, it said. The delegation met with the families of martyrs and expressed solidarity with them. BaAr AssocSSOCiaAtionON Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association has expressed anguish over the killing of youth by Army in Sumbal. The Bar Association has decided to observe strike on Monday to protest against what it termed “revenge killings by the Army.” In a statement, the Association said an extraordinary meeting was held today in which it was decided to observe one-day strike tomorrow. “The call for strike has been given by the Bar Association to condemn the killing of the innocent people by the Army which in fact is an act of revenge,” the statement reads. The lawyers body said the government “has failed to control the army and the troopers from very beginning are leisurely killing the innocent people and till date no action has been taken” “Where FIR has been proved against the army officials for committing murder, the Union of India has refused to grant sanction encouraging the army to kill more innocents,” it further reads. The Associations has also asked lawyers not to attend any court tomorrow. “The Bar Association is also requesting the other District and Mufassil Bar Associations of the State of J&K to cooperate and implement the decision of the Bar Association and go for one day strike,” it adds. Democratic Freedom Party chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah, National Front chairman Nayeem Ahmad Khan, JKLF (H) chairman Javaid Ahmad Mir, Muslim Conference chairman Shabir Ahmad Dar, Islamic political Party chairman Muhammad Yousuf Naqash and International Forum For Justice Chairman Muhammad Ahsaan Untoo have also called for complete shutdown to protest the unwarranted killing of two youth in Bandipora. “We appeal people of the Valley to observe complete shutdown on Monday to protest the killing of two youth Irfan Ahmad and Tariq Ahmad by army,” they said in a statement issued here. In his telephonic address, Shah expressed sympathy with the family members of Tariq Ahmad Laharwal. “We can understand what the family members will be going through and express our sympathies with them. The sacrifices offered by the martyrs will not go waste. We will continue our political struggle till the Indian occupation ends here,” he said in his telephonic address. Shah also reminded Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of his assurances on zero tolerance and said that India only believes in suppressing Kashmiris through the use of power. “It is because of their militaristic approach that the killing of the innocent Kashmiris is going on,” he said. Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir also condemned the incident, saying that Kashmiris are being subjected to genocide. Chairperson of Duktaran-e-Millat Syed Aasia Anrabi has strongly condemned the killing of youth by Army in Markundal village. Andrabi said that Army is killing the youth without any provocation and people must protest against the oppression. She said in coming days the people will participate in Iftar parties of Army. She has urged the people to come forward against the occupation. Meanwhile, chairman JKLF (R) Farooq Ahmad Dar alias Bitta Karatey has expressed his deep anguish and resentment on the incident. “There is nothing new in such incidents, every time our beloved ones are being separated from us,” he said. Dar further said that just a day before Salman Khurshid legitimized the existence of AFSPA in J&K “giving its forces a notion that you are free to kill anybody and today’s incidents clearly exemplifies the same.” Chairman of Salvation Movement Zaffar Akbar Bhat also castigated New Delhi for the killings. He said that puppets of New Delhi should re-think and join the ongoing freedom movement as “no one in Kashmir is safe in presence of forces and black laws”. Chairman, International Forum for Justice and Human Rights Forum J&K, Mohammad Ahsan Untoo Sunday visited Markundal village to protest the killing of two youth by Army. Untoo participated in the protests and staged dharna at Sumbal Chowk. He also met the bereaved families and expressed his sympathy. Terming the killing of two civilians in Sumbal Bandipora as barbaric and cowardly act, Jammu and Kashmir People’s League Chairman Mukhtar Ahmad Waza said this is a worst form of human rights abuse. “These unprovoked incidents are brazen violation of human rights and exposes the claims of Indian army as well as their cruelty,” he said.
